A George III Oak Eight Day Striking Longcase ClockA George III Oak Eight Day Striking Longcase Clock With Pretty Floral Painted Dial

Description: Although this would very much be described as a ’country’ clock it actually has some very fine qualities and the proportions a particularly appealing. The details, such as the cut and shaping of the mouldings, the elegant trunk with its full length door and sweeping arched top can compete with even the most sophisticated longcase clocks. The solid oak has some wonderful colours and figuring that gives off a warm rich glow making it very easy to look at and to live with. The dial is beautiful, retaining its original white ground against which are delicately painted floral designs. Its style simplicity places it around the turn of the eighteenth to nineteenth Centuries and is probably from the south coast, most likely Kent or Sussex. The movement is well made. We have completely dismantled it, cleaning and restoring each part before reassembling and fully testing. It has an attractive hourly strike on a bell. As with all our clocks we give a full year guarantee and offer a delivery and set up service is included in the price. 83" (211 cm.) High, excluding finials
