Antique Clock Repairs & Restoration

The Clock Clinic has a restoration service for your own clocks, watches and barometers, covering all aspects – movements, dials and cases of clocks, and tubes, mechanisms and casework of barometers. We can also overhaul and repair many makes of quality watches and supply and fit new leather straps.

Most of the work is carried out in our own workshops by our own qualified craftsmen, three of whom have British Horological Institute certification. Our carriage clock specialist served his apprenticeship with Aspreys, and worked there for many years.

Movements are fully dismantled and cleaned, repaired where necessary, then re-assembled and fully tested. New wheels can be cut and fitted and any necessary replacement parts can be made to original pattern and specification.

Dials can be resilvered using traditional methods, brass work and spandrels cleaned and polished, then the whole dial lacquered to preserve the finish. Numerals can be re-waxed or re-painted if necessary.

Painted dials can be re-touched or fully restored depending on condition, and faded or rubbed numerals replaced where the originals can be traced.

Casework ranges from a light sympathetic polish and re-wax to a complete re-build. We can also deal with painted finishes e.g. English lacquer work (chinoiserie)

Mercury barometers can be re-tubed and overhauled, and aneroid barometers and barographs repaired.

Although we specialise in antique clocks we are fully equipped to repair almost any mechanical clock. If your item is not valuable, but you are fond of it, please do not hesitate to contact us.
